Hey, My name is Shivam, and I am a third-year BCA student. In this blog, I will discuss How I Got into Tech. My path to becoming a tech person was bumpy, with many ups and downs, and this blog allows me to share that experience.
Before I begin my journey, let me tell you about myself. 😉

I am a 3rd-year undergraduate student at APS University

I am a Full Stack Web developer, love Open Source, like Technical Writing and DevOps Learner.

I contributed to some good open source projects like [EddieHub] and [ReactPlay] and am a part of some good open source communities.

I am GitHub 2022 graduate student and selected for SSOC 2022.

I recently started my first job as a React JS Developer

First Year

First Semester

I had no idea about this technology and other things throughout my first semester of college. During this sem, I only focused on college. I went to college daily and made my attendance.😅 That was a difficult semester academically since I spent the first semester making new acquaintances and focusing on theoretical learning. So, to the end of the first term, I did nothing (Only learn about a C programming Language a bit).

Second Semester

The second semester was better than the first since I learned about Web Development throughout this semester. Our teachers taught us about Html, CSS, and JavaScript (but on blackboard 😅). So, I decided to start searching for web development. This year, I learned about How Amazing Technology Is. As a result, I decided to dig deeper into the technology. I started my Tech Journey by learning Html. So far this semester, I've just learned about **"How the Internet Works," as well as HTML and CSS.

So, with this bit of learning about Web development, my First Year ended.

I was happy at that time because I wasn't aware of many things.

Learn By Doing, etc.

Second Year

Third Semester

Because there was a lockdown during my third semester, I decided to learn things on my own. So I began learning a programming language, and while I was aware of the C language at the time, I wanted to learn something different, so I chose Python. I started learning python from YouTube. This semester, I'm learning Python, HTML, and CSS. This year, I also began working on projects. I build a Library App, and Voice Assistance News App in python and made some website designs using Html and CSS.

Fourth Semester

In Fourth Semester, I got to know about DSA. So, I decided to learn about What is DSA, Why we use it, and How we implement it? So, to begin, I learned the fundamentals of DSA and practiced DSA with Python. This semester, I started with JavaScript and C++. I began learning all of this through YouTube but did not share my learnings publicly because I lacked ideas about these topics. My university does not promote any of these initiatives, they never push students to engage in open source or learn publicly activities. So, at that time, I wasn't aware of these things.
But at the end of the 4th semester, I was looking to learn a new Programming language because I was not interested in C++. So, I decided to go with Java, and I started learning it.

With all this learning, 2nd year ended, and this year I just learned some new programming languages, practiced web development, and did some DSA.

Now that two years have passed, I still have no job or internship experience.

Third Year

Fifth Semester

Now, this was my most productive year. At the start of this semester, I found Kunal Kushwaha. I began learning Java and DSA through his YouTube channel, and after a month of study, I found out about the ShowwCase. So, I joined ShowwCase and started to share my learnings publicly. Learning in public helped me in learning things more quickly.
During the second month of the Fifth semester, I learned about GitHub and made my first contribution🤗. After that, I started contributing to small open source projects for practicing. Because of ShowwCase, I connected with many wonderful people.
Now, I started learning things more quickly.

I learn about React, Firebase, Node JS, etc. I started building projects using it to help me understand things better, and I began uploading all of my learnings on ShowwCase. This pattern helped me a lot. At the start of this year, I met with Tapas Adhikary, and he share with me his new open-source project named ReactPlay.
In April, I began contributing to the ReactPlay project, which has greatly helped me in learning new skills. I realized how essential "Learning in Public" is now. So I created a Twitter account and began networking with wonderful people, contributing to more open source projects. I started building connections on Twitter, joining spaces and sharing my Achievements and Failures in public.

By performing all of these things, I completed my Fifth Semester.

Sixth Semester

I am currently in my sixth semester, and this semester I applied for jobs and was hired as a React JS Developer. I started learning DevOps. This semester, I also received my first swags from Github, some fantastic swag from MLH, and React Day India(which are on their way to me).

I also had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people from the ReactPlay and 4C communities (I joined 4C recently).

So, this is my Dev Journey so far. I am looking forward to connecting with more people and am excited to be a part of more new communities.
