The majority of the world still uses Google as their primary search engine. It is undoubtedly the most trusted and widely used search engine of all time. However, it's overwhelming to verify sources and facts on Google Search. Finding a legitimate webpage that provides accurate results is still a challenge.

On March 28, Google announced five new ways to verify information with Google Search. In this blog, let's discuss everything new with Google Search.

Summary

Google announced five new ways to verify Search results. Get a perspective on search results and more info about the result, author, and page of the serach.

  • About this result is available globally.
  • About this page helps you get more insights about websites from the search page itself.
  • Perspectives provide information from various journalists, experts, and other relevant voices.
  • About this author provides more information about the author, their experience, and background.
  • Now, Google Search spots information gaps smartly and automatically shows content advisories in such situations.

About this Result

Google launched this feature in 2021 to help users gain more information about the website's source. On Tuesday, Google expanded it throughout the globe in all languages.

You can click the menu icon next to the search results to learn more about the source of information. It will also include why and how Google determined it would be helpful for you. This additional context will help you decide whether to open a website.

Perspectives

Google has been testing Perspectives since August 2022, and it is available in English US results. It is part of Google's ongoing work in bringing more voices into Search.

This GIF shows an example of how different sources would appear related to a reader's search. In this case for the query "Oscar's" a reader could see tweets, op-eds and more from different perspectives.

A new carousel will appear after Top Stories and display insights from journalists and experts. Knowing what different respected people think would help you better understand what you are searching for.

Google said this feature will soon be released in English in the United States and available on desktops and smartphones.

About this author

Having an idea about the author is also a deciding factor when opening a page. The information will be more trustworthy if the author is respected, well-known, and an expert.

Google added a feature to know more about the author along with its About this result feature. It will display the author's background and experience. People can find more information about the author when they open the search menu on individual Search.

This feature is currently available on English Search results globally. Soon, Google will release it in English on Perspectives in the United States.

About this page

This feature will help you learn more about the source and topic of a particular page. You can now type in the URL of the organization in Google Search, and information from About this page will populate at the top of the Google Search results.

This GIF shows that now when you type in the URL into the Google Search navigation bar you can get more information about that source.

This will help you understand how the website describes itself, how others talk about it, or any recent news coverage. It will help you decide if you want to visit the website or not.

Google announced this feature globally in English.

Information Gaps

There are two main reasons why Google Search can have information gaps. The first is not having relevant information about the query. The second is when information changes too quickly because new data and facts are added while the user searches.

When the topic evolves quickly, Google Search will now show content advisories. You can now type in the URL of the organization in Google Search, and information from About this page will populate at the top of the Google Search results.

This feature now supports new German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese languages.

Closing Notes

With International Fact-checking day on 2nd April, Google ensures its users get accurate information on Google Search. Also, Google and YouTube provided a $13.2 million grant to the International Fact-Checking Network to launch a new Global Fact Check Fund. The company also mentioned two partnerships it is doing regarding information literacy and fact-checking.
