Sharing a detailed step-by-step breakdown of a resume that got shortlisted by Google, Microsoft, and Amazon!

(You might not be planning to work there for now, but what's the harm in learning?) Feel free to reshare it! 🚀

🌈 Using a color-coordination method for easier understanding

a

📍 𝐏𝐢𝐧𝐤 = 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬: start each resume bullet with this;

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐩 #1 to effectively bypass resume scanning software that filters out unqualified employees.

Ex: Led > teamwork skills, designed > creativity skills, automated > technical skills, optimized > outside-the-box thinking, etc. [Use tense accordingly]

📍 𝐘𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 = 𝐉𝐨𝐛-𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬: Specific softwares/technologies/skills/tools/platforms based on job title's qualifications.

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐩 #2 Use at least 3 JDs form target company to form a word cloud & shortlist top skills to showcase on the resume.

📍 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 = 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬-𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐩 #3 Recruiters shortlist candidates with 60% of your resume to support your domain knowledge & 28% of your resume to support your soft skills.

📍 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 = 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬: **MOST IMPORTANT** numbers and percentages showcasing measurable outcomes from your work.

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐩 #4 Only 41% of resumes include >3 impact metrics & Yes, these are the ones who get a callback from recruiters.

📍 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞 = 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Statement structured as the Problem, Action, and Results (PAR) for each one of your work experiences.

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐩 #4 Always add impact statements as they help you drive recruiters' as well as interviewers' attention to your prior achievements at the workplace.

📍 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐥𝐞 = 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝𝐈𝐧/𝐆𝐢𝐭𝐇𝐮𝐛/𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐬:

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐩 #5 Resumes with robust links & portfolios have 71% higher chances of landing in an interview.

📍 𝐋𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞/𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐦 = 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:

Use reverse chronological order & ONLY mention CGPA if over (7/10 or 3.5/4 point scale). Add Optional Sections: Awards, Relevant Coursework (Tip: Leverage if you have 0 experience in the field you're trying to get into), Others, PORs etc. as per your experience.

📍 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐨𝐱𝐞𝐬 = 𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭-𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬: Preferred to incorporate in your experience & projects rather than simply mentioning in the "soft-skills" section.

Notes:

- Use Liner, Single Pager format, with 475-600 words not more!

- Use X-Y-Z formula to ace the experience section (Google It!)

- This is a Combinational Resume, Choose wisely from this, "Chronological", "Functional" as per your aim & current years of experience.

Resume used: PIRATE K. (Thanks for open-sourcing it, buddy)

Note: This is the post that I got on LinkedIn. I want to share it through the thread but the character limit was exceeded so I have uploaded it here. This is not my original blog.
